Survey shows demand for leisure travel remains stable

The recent fluctuations of the U.S. stock market are beginning to
affect the leisure travel plans and habits of Americans, according to
the most recent travelhorizons(TM) survey, co-authored by Ypartnership,
a worldwide marketing services firm that specializes in the travel
industry, and the Travel Industry Association (TIA) in Washington, D.C.
The nationally-projectable survey of approximately 2,300 U.S. adults
was conducted during the week of October 13, 2008.

TripAdvisor(R), the world's largest travel community, today announced
the results of its annual travel trends survey of more than 3,000 U.S.
travelers. The primary trends identified are that travelers appear to
be going lean and green by visiting national parks, hiking, and
engaging in adventure activities. A greater amount of Americans said
they will be environmentally conscious in their travel decisions in
2009, and more plan to visit eco-friendly hotels in the coming year.

Search engine use continues to grow,
with 49% of Internet users saying they use search engines on a typical
day, according to a Pew Internet & American Life Project report
released this week.

 

“People are basically putting
themselves in the driver's seat,” said Susannah Fox, an associate
director at the Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life
Project. “They have ideas about what they want to find vs. waiting for
it to be served up to them.”
